I. Why Do Baking Ingredients Agglomerate and Become Difficult to Screen

 

1. Physical Agglomeration: Fine powder particles of raw materials clump together under compression due to electrostatic and van der Waals forces.
2. Hygroscopic Agglomeration: Powdered sugar, milk powder, and other ingredients absorb water, which forms "liquid bridges" between particles, causing adhesion.
3. Fat Extraction: When oil-containing ingredients are heated, oil extracts, increasing viscosity and causing clumping.
4. Screening Equipment Problems: Pure vertical vibration makes it difficult to break up soft clumps; excessively high mesh counts can cause clumps to clog the screen holes; excessively high feed volume results in excessively thick material on the screen surface, making screening ineffective at the bottom.

 

 

II. Advantages of the Circular Gyratory Screen

III. Specific Solutions for Incomplete Screening

 

Option 1: Optimize the Oscillating Screen Equipment
Add screen cleaning devices: a bouncing ball system (silicone balls impact the screen to prevent clogging); an ultrasonic system (vibrating the screen to prevent clogging with ultrafine, sticky materials).
Choose the appropriate screen: stainless steel mesh is preferred (wear-resistant); Teflon mesh is used for anti-sticking; for severe lumping, a double-layer screen (upper coarse screen, lower fine screen) is used.

Adjust equipment parameters: Counterweight angle (controls material movement and friction time); adjust amplitude/speed (increases force to disperse clumps and prevents premature discharge).

 

Option 2: Improve screening process and operation
Control feed: Use a feeder to feed materials evenly, avoiding large amounts at once.
Return material for re-crushing: Large clumps on the screen are broken down by a crusher and then returned to the screen for a second screening.
Control humidity: Screen in a low-humidity environment to reduce moisture absorption and clumping.

 

Option 3: Raw material pretreatment
Desiccant blending: Agglomerated materials are sealed with food-grade desiccant to reduce agglomerate strength (prevent desiccant contamination and ensure food safety).
Crush before screening: Severely agglomerated materials are first coarsely crushed before being screened for finer screening.
